📑 Authors and Sections (ROI Tables)

Check this article to learn how to read the ROI (Return On Investment) tables when analysing the efficiency of your Sections and Authors

Here is how to use the smartocto Insights system to analyse the efficiency of Sections. The same logic applies for the analysis of Authors.

1. Go to Insights>Sections:

Insights, Sections

2. The Sections page will display the ROI (Return On Investment) Table (see below).

insights-efficiency

The above ROI table illustrates the efficiency of your sections by analyzing the number of published stories within each section and the corresponding Article reads those stories have generated. On the left side, the Number of articles published within a certain section is displayed. On the right, we have the numbers of Article reads that a corresponding section has gathered, together with the colour-coded message explaining the level of efficiency of every section in the table:

🟩 High efficiency
⬜ Normal efficiency
🟥 Low efficiency

Pro Tip: The darker the green/red colour is in the ROI table, the higher/lower the efficiency of sections.

Important sidenote:

1) Number of articles published in section(s)

On the left side, you will see the sections displayed as percentages, indicating the volume of published stories. Please note that there may be overlap, as a single story can be published in multiple sections.

In the graph above, you see that the section News has 92% of the stories attributed. But there is overlap with Sport, since 49% of all stories are also attributed to Sports.

2) Percentage of article reads populated by stories in section(s)

On the right side, the chart reflects each section's contribution to generating article reads. Similarly, a story may belong to multiple sections, which results in the attribution of article reads across these sections.

Looking at the article reads, again 98% of the article reads are generated by articles which have the section News connected to them. Some of those articles are also connected to Sports. Therefore 58% of the article reads are generated by articles which are connected to Sports.

Pro Tip: Scroll down the Sections page to see all Active Sections and analyse their performance from a variety of different angles (pageviews, loyalty, read depth, attention time, social actions, etc.)
